Pastor Weekly - 2/19/25

Aaron Bohrer

Hello ICC Family!

Blessings to you all from the air somewhere above Arkansas or Louisiana I imagine.  It is supposed to rain there in Charleston all day.  It is supposed to be 9 degrees in Wichita where I am heading (one day late because my flight yesterday was cancelled due to snow!)  Trying unsuccessfully to sleep on the plane, I have been thinking about teachers.  I am incredibly thankful that we have a couple of really good ones in our church!  Brother Steve and Sister Laurel will be leading us as we start our new discipleship series on Wednesday nights.  (Please come tonight, by the way, as we launch this new study.  I am positive it will be worth your time!  I am very bummed that I am going to miss the first lesson!)  Pastor Jimmy and Sister Jan will also be teaching and leading the younger adults through a new study starting tonight as well.

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;

teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

Proverbs 9:9

Teaching is an honored and rewarding profession and I believe the truth of the verse above is a primary reason why.  Teaching multiplies the seeds of truth that grow and mature into spiritual fruit in the lives of those that believe.  Every teaching/learning opportunity is one that has the potential of paying off somewhere down the road with rich rewards.  So, whether one is teaching in a formal, classroom setting, or in the family at home, or even among peers or work colleagues in a completely informal situation… wisdom and righteousness is passed along.  This is why Moses tells the Israelites:

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

Deuteronomy 11:18-21

Each of us called into faith by the Lord are also called to be teachers in some form or another!  Our path of discipleship is so important because not only do we want to learn and grow, but because we have a responsibility to pass along what we learn to others.   So, I implore you to come tonight not just for yourself, but to learn something you can pass on…  We take these verses above seriously at ICC because we are committed to growing in discipleship.  Continuously growing so that who we truly are in Christ (complete!) eventually matches how we feel about ourselves and how we look to others.  Praise the Lord that one day those images will be one and the same!

Blessings to all of you and know that I am praying for you!
