Hello ICC Family!
Sunday we are going to get to the verse in Colossians that gives us the title of our current sermon series: “Complete in Christ.”
…So you also are complete through your union with Christ
Colossians 2:10
As I have been reading and praying through this passage, the Lord keeps bringing the song “Give Me Jesus” to my mind. The first time I ever heard that song was Fernando Ortega singing it, but it turns out the song is much, much older. That song originates, at least partially, from an African-American spiritual that pre-dates the Civil War. The thought of slaves singing the song quietly to themselves throughout the day fills an already meaningful and powerful song with even more gravity and more hope.
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
You can have all this world
Give me Jesus
When I am alone, Give me Jesus
When I come to die, Give me Jesus
Sunday we are going to examine fully how we are complete in Christ. There is nothing more than can be added to our Savior to earn or enjoy our salvation. As always, this truth should bring us great comfort. For me, it also makes me want to sing “Give me Jesus.” If I am complete in him, then give me all of him! Like Jesus telling Peter that if He doesn’t wash his feet then Peter would have no part of him, and then Peter replying “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!…” If I am complete in Christ, then… give - me - Jesus! As much as I can possible have! In every moment of every day, in every circumstance, in every activity, in my life and in your yours, in our church, and every other… Give us Jesus!
I hope to see many of you tonight at fellowship dinner and prayer meeting. Just a reminder that this will be our last Wednesday prayer meeting before switching our formal discipleship time to Wednesday nights. Sunday morning prayer before the church service will be starting in March.
Blessings to all of you and know that I am praying for you!
