Pastor Weekly - 1/22/25

Aaron Bohrer

Hello ICC Family!

We are relatively new to this area, so I had to do some research to find out how rare it is to have snow in the Lowcountry.  Fairly rare it turns out, but not unheard of.  This link was an interesting read: When was the last time it snowed in Charleston?  When it started last night, it was fun to hear the neighbor’s kids run outside to play in it for a while.  However, Laurel might have been even more excited about it than them!  She keeps trying to build a snowman, but they all have turned out looking like the one above. I am calling it "The Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree" of snowmen.

Today some of you probably had an opportunity to rest from your typical weekday.  Some workplaces were closed.  Schools were closed.  We cancelled church.  Everybody was encouraged to stay off the streets if at all possible.  After all, we don’t have the snowplows or salt trucks like other parts of the country do.  So, some of you perhaps slept in a bit, and maybe even went outside to try to build a snowman.

Others of you… had to figure out how to get in to work anyway, or perhaps you had to get to your family member’s or friend’s house to help them out.  Today might have been even more stressful than normal - not restful at all!  And who knows what tomorrow will bring as the roads ice up and more people have to go back to work…

As we talked about several times the past few weeks, the journey to entering into God’s rest is going to look different for each person.  I read an article today where a pastor was counselling a person going through a hard time by saying, "It’s going to be all right. It’s just not going to be all right the way you thought it would be."  That phrase could be used frequently about spiritual things.  We know things are going to be all right.  We know we are going to be healed.  We know we are going to enter God’s rest…  That is why we can boldly go to the throne of God!  We just don’t know when.  And how He is going to help us in our time of need - we have no idea.  He will, for sure.  But probably not the way we think.

That is why we need to always stay focused on the right thing.  We fix our eyes on Jesus!  With the goal of looking and acting and thinking more like him every single day  - of becoming complete in him.  The journey is going to be windy and have hills and valleys, but the destination is good and right and true.  This Sunday we will start working our way through the book of Colossians and seeing what it means to be complete in Christ.  I hope that you all will be able to join us.  10:30 Sunday morning!

Blessings to all of you and know that I am praying for you!

Pastor Aaron
